On a More Serious Note....

This show isn’t real but there is definitely situations on the show that can realistically happen and are problems in the world we live in today. On that note, I can say that the list is pretty long divorce, adoption, death, and the issues that happen at the hospital alone can happen but what I’m going to talk about today is PTSD.

For those of you that aren’t really sure or aren’t aware of what that is, it’s stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and it is mental health condition triggered by experiencing or seeing a terrifying event. This can happen to anyone but I’m going to focus in on how it affects the soldiers and people serving in the military or are veterans. The reason for that is because on the show they’ve had a couple doctors who have served one of them being Dr. Owen Hunt. Throughout his time on the show there have been a few episodes where his post war problems have affected and haunted him to the point where in one of the episodes he attacked Cristina not on purpose he was having a nightmare and he ended up choking her in his sleep, it wasn’t until Callie walked in and started yelling when he finally snapped out of it and he couldn’t believe what he had done it shook him up pretty bad and he was having trouble sleeping before that but after he was afraid to fall asleep. Over the episodes and seasons between then and now you can see how he began to deal with it better but this season the episodes leading up to the winter final and the winter final episode itself you see the problem arise again when they hire in a new cardiac surgeon who recently served with Dr. April Kepner and we eventually find out he knows Hunt too. One of the new interns at the hospital comes across Owen when he was all alone in a room and he seemed to be out of it and arguing with himself alarmed the intern wanted to make sure he was okay when he got him to snap out of it but Owen wanted to be left alone.  The final gives something away that gives a clue on just why Owen hates this guy so much and why he’s having problems dealing with the situation. The new doctor knows Owen’s mom so it makes you wonder but Meredith ends up giving away the clue after she speaks to his mom alone after she’s there with her husband who is a firefighter that had been caught in a wildfire accident. The clue is Owen had a sister and just what all that means is unclear but this final had a lot of things leaving you wanting to know badly. Hopefully Owen will be okay but this is an issue like many people with this condition have to deal with the rest of their lives. It’s a serious issue that needs even more awareness begin brought to the attention of everyone because so many of the people serving or have served have this condition and so many don’t have the help they need.

Mcdreamy Dream

Normally I don’t dream about Grey’s even though I absolutely love it I just don’t really dream of it but this dream was so realistic it was crazy. It started off in Season 12 and I play the role as Meredith’s babysitter. It was a warm sunny day Meredith had just got off work when there was a knock at the door. She was busy so I answered the door as I was getting ready to leave anyways. The person standing on the other side was frightening. It was none other than Derek. Before I could answer the door Meredith was already walking in the room and when he walked into the house she stood there looking at him. She didn’t seem extremely upset as I would have expected her to be but I felt maybe she thought she was dreaming or just simply too shocked to react just how she was truly feeling. He explained to her that he had to fake his death and I can’t remember the reason but she was furious with him for doing what he had done to her and refused to let him back into her life and told him to get out. She told me I could leave and then disappeared. I walked out of the house not knowing what to say but I realize Derek was still outside. I tried helping with saying she was just hurt and he should still fight to get his family back because they need him. He said he planned to but he just didn’t know what to do next and that’s where I woke up. I felt so awkward waking up from that because I didn’t feel like it was a dream at all and at the same time sad because I wish that this was the case that Derek faked his death or that this is all just a long nightmare Meredith will wake up from. All the character’s deaths are hard for grey’s fans but three of the worse was Lexie and Mark’s Plane Crash Death and Derek’s car accident death. They all three where strong characters on the show they made the show what it was and the more of these main characters being killed off or moved on and then replaced with new people is making Grey’s feel less like Grey’s. Sadly, I know that Derek won’t be coming back and there’s probably another tragic death somewhere along the line but I just can’t stop watching…why do I do this to myself or should I say why are you doing this to us Shonda?!

“Pretty Penny Killed My Husband”

Last week’s episode of Grey’s was an intense one. Penny, one of the doctor’s in charge of Derek after his accident and later died was at Meredith’s house for a dinner party. If the fact that she’s dating Callie one of Derek’s close friends wasn’t enough for everyone they later find out that Penny is going to be working a Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital under Meredith’s supervision. Before I get too ahead of myself I should add in that Meredith didn’t let anyone know who Penny really was until they were all sitting at the table ready to eat and everyone went on and on about how Penny seems like such a great person. Meredith couldn’t take it anymore so she eventually ended up blurting out “Pretty Penny Killed My Husband” and everyone got silent and looked at Meredith with shock. All of Derek’s friends and coworker’s including his Sister who was sitting right next to Penny were all there. At first everyone is kind of silent, Meredith get up and goes to her room with Alex following her and Amelia gets up from the table too a little later. She went up to Meredith’s room crying asking how could she do this to her, she should have told her, she kept it from her the whole night and let her hug Penny the woman who killed her brother. She went on and Meredith looked at her and said “I did this to you? I lost my husband and father to my kids and you’re falling apart?!? I don’t get to do that because I have 3 kids!! So please shut up and get out of my room!!! Get her out of here before I kill her!!!” While all this was going on Callie is struggling with how she’s feeling too. She’s angry not just with the obvious fact that the person she’s dating just so happens to be the girl that is partly to blame for Derek’s death but also with the fact that Penny never told her that and also with the fact that she can’t turn her feelings off that she’s developed for Penny. When everyone leaves and Meredith comes down stairs she didn’t realize Penny was still there before Meredith can say anything Penny apologizes again and says she’s leaving and tells Meredith not to worry that she won’t be taking the job at the hospital she’ll asked to be transferred somewhere else. What no one could expect was that Meredith’s response to the whole thing was “Be there on Monday and don’t be late.” as she’s walking up the stairs. As far as the preview goes it looks like Meredith isn’t going to make Penny’s new job under her supervision at all easy.

Flashbacks…

We all know what it’s like to have flashbacks some are good others are bad and they’re usually triggered by something that was there, a person, a smell, and so on. The last episode of Grey’s everyone can’t wait to meet Callie’s new girlfriend who Callie is falling hard for and so they encourage her to bring her to the dinner party at Meredith, Amelia, and Maggie’s house. Everyone is having a good time laughing talking when they all hear a knock on the door Meredith says she’ll get it and goes to the door. What she who sees on the other side of the door wasn’t at all who she was expecting. One of the doctor’s in charge of taking care of Derek at the hospital he was sent to after the accident was standing outside her door next to Callie. Callie smiled excitedly and said “This is my girlfriend, Penny” and the look on Meredith’s face tells it all. This was at the very end of the last episode and tomorrow’s will show what will g down and happen next but in the preview her mind was sent back to the day Derek died and it played over and over again. She ran grabbed their family picture and went upstairs. She set the picture on her dresser with the other pictures and the framed post it note vow her and Derek made. She felt sick so she went to the bathroom and as she looked into the mirror she pictured it all. The words that the doctor said to her wouldn’t stop and she was having trouble with dealing with it. Although that’s all you got to see it shows enough to know it’ll be an intense episode. I’m anxious to see how this will impact Meredith after she’s got her life on track again and even though she still hurts from losing Derek she was finally back to her old self but now she has this happen. Will it set her back or will she be able to work pass this? How will Callie react when she finds out her new girlfriend is one of the doctor’s involved with Derek’s care when he died? How will the rest of the cast react? And does Penny remember Meredith? What will she say to Meredith, if she says anything at all? So many questions to be answered in tomorrow’s episode I just can’t wait.

Dr. Callie Torres

Actress Sara Ramirez plays Callie Torres on the show. She may not be an original cast member but she’s pretty close. In the beginning she didn’t really fit in with everyone else and when she started dating George O’Malley she found it really hard to get along with Izzie, Meredith and Cristina. Over time you see her character grow she got married to George and then got a divorce, she dealt with George’s death, she started dating girls and found the girl of her dreams, she got pregnant by her best friend and almost died in a car accident before having her daughter, she lost her best friend in a plane crash which also her wife was in and had to amputate her leg, she watched her marriage fall apart and although she’s gone through all of that and so much more she still stands strong. She is the perfect example of strong even when she breaks down every now and again she always gets back up and tries again. She’s the chief of Ortho, She’s stands up for who she is and is proud of it, she’s a mother, and I don’t think anyone could disagree that she’s an amazing person. Like in the last post, she isn’t ashamed of who she loves and Arizona Robbins and Callie were definitely one of the power couples of the show. Another spoiler, is Callie has a new gf and Arizona is a little jealous even though they now are divorced it’s been a tough journey for them both to let go but they knew they weren’t happy anymore. I think this shows again how strong Callie is because she’s lost a lot of people she’s loved and cared deeply for whether by death, or in the other case divorce she found herself very unhappy and although she did she eventually managed to work pass the pain and found someone new who made her feel happy again and that isn’t by any means easy. Like many others on the show she’s definitely someone to look up to and even though she’s come a long way and it’s just the beginning of season 12 I feel she going to keep surprising everyone with her strength and compassion for her job and people. Lastly, I’ll end this with a clip of the episode from her accident which was the musical episode on the show and a favorite quote by her (shown above).

The lengths we go to for love…..

Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t watched the season 12 opener. This season started off with a dramatic story line. For most if not all of us, when it comes to the people we love we’d go to any length to protect that person, to be with that person, and show them that we care. In this episode two teenage girls were hit by a train while “walking to school”. When they bring these two girls in the doctors quickly find out that this was no accident. They didn’t want to die but they didn’t want to live in a world without each other. One of the girl’s parents especially her mom didn’t approve of this relationship so when she came across the letters the girl’s wrote back and forth to each other in a box, she immediately wanted to send her away to a special camp that would “fix” her. The girls were both scared to lose each other so they decided to jump in front of train together. When Dr. Torres heard this it brought tears to her eyes not only because this was a beyond sad situation but she knew the pain of being judged for who she loved also. Dr. Torres is a bisexual woman and has faced her share of ignorance from people. Hearing how hurt and scared this young girl was made her furious and although she “stepped out of line” as a doctor by giving her opinion to the mother while giving an update on the girl, she walked away before letting it get the best of her. Later on the mother started gaining up on another doctor who ended up punching her in the face (even though that was very unprofessional the lady really deserve it in my opinion) and apologizing after. As the show goes on you see the girl’s father start to show how he really feels about the situation and even eventually talks to the father of the other girl. The other girl’s father was taking it rough because his daughter was all he had left his wife died and he moved to America to give his daughter a better life. In the end the mom is freaking out saying she’s still making her daughter go to the camp and being completely rude. When out of nowhere the father steps in and starts yelling saying she’s not going to camp because her well-being and happiness matter more to him than if she’s lesbian, they aren’t pressing charges on the doctor or suing the hospital and if she doesn’t stop he’s leaving her never to come back and taking their daughter with him. That by far was my favorite part because while he was yelling this all to her the doctors were bring his daughter back into the room and she heard every word her dad said. The ending was so beyond sweet, the girl wrote the other girl a letter and gave it to her dad to give to her when she woke up. When she did wake up she was scared and seeing that letter made her happy. That was a great first episode and it made me even more excited for the rest of the season.

The Grey in Grey's Anatomy...

Ellen Pompeo plays Meredith Grey, the main character of the show. It gives you the inside view of her life. She faced many struggles growing up like seeing her mom pick her job over her and having her family in a mess that has made her both cold in ways but also a very strong and talented surgeon. From the beginning and who she is in season 12 is a total change from the situations she faced, to falling I love, becoming a mother and losing those who meant most to her. Although she has changed about her some things stay the same and one of them being she’s still as strong as she was from the start.

One of my many favorite scenes of her would have to be when she tells Derek “I lied. I’m not out of this relationship. I’m in. I’m so in, it’s humiliating, because here I am, begging…” and he said her name and she goes “Shut up. You say Meredith and I yell, remember? Okay. Here it is. Your choice? It’s simple. Her, or me. And I’m sure she’s really great. But Derek, I love you. In a… really, really big… pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window, unfortunate way that makes me hate you, love you. So pick me. Choose me. Love me.” This is one of my favorites because she’s not one to just open up about how she feels but she takes these leaps of courage and tells him how she feels. In this episode and in a few others she does this and I admire her for that. It’s not always easy expressing how we feel about people. In this scene though I’m sure it was even harder for her because Derek had a choice to make on who he was going to be with and she could have just gave up but she didn’t she stood up and told him just how she felt even if he didn’t pick her in the end she needed to tell him just how she felt.

There is so much that I admire about Ellen Pompeo’s Character personality but Ellen Pompeo herself is an amazing actress. She acts in a way that is so believable and where you can actually feel what her character is going through. That’s also the same for many of the other cast members of the show too. When they leave or go it’s hard to accept. Derek’s death and Cristina’s leave from the show were tragic losses for fans and seeing how Meredith handles these situations is what makes it even harder for the fans. I think that this gives some idea of Ellen’s Character but she’ll be in many posts to come.

The Day is Finally Here....

After months of wait season 12 is finally here. Tonight, Grey’s Anatomy is back for a brand new season and I am both excited and curious to see what is going to happen. It left off with some unanswered questions like, what’s Meredith’s life going to be like without Derek? What will happen to her and Amelia? Who is going to be Chief? Is it officially the end of April and Jackson? What will happen for Amelia and Owen? And just who exactly is joining the cast this season? And hopefully all these question will be answered. Although being curious I know like every season it’s going to be a roller coaster because Shonda Rhimes always has something up her sleeve.

The show took a big twist when they lost one of their main characters, Derek Shepherd. Although last season did show the mourning of his passing by his friends, family, and co-workers it was definitely rushed and there is a lot left to see about how they’re all going to move pass this especially Meredith, her children and Amelia. Although many were affected by his death his wife, children and sister are being shown to be dealing with it on a deeper level. It’s obvious in the many episodes before his death, Meredith can stand alone and be strong when things go wrong but Derek meant the world to her so I think we will get to see just how she copes and moves on from this difficult time in her life. Amelia on the other hand struggling with the difficult times, she’s a recovering drug addict, her brother meant the world to her and she’s finding it hard to move on but in this season I think we’ll get to see what road she takes after his death, will she go back to old ways and fall apart or will she stay strong and cope and learn to move on?

In the preview, Miranda Bailey is running for chief with another component just as good of a surgeon as she is. From the start Miranda has always put her work first. She’s a strong and shows tough love to the interns but she cares completely about them like family. I can’t make the best statement on who I think should win because the opposing side is a new character to the show but I can at least say the reasons why I think Bailey should win. She has more knowledge about that hospital than any other outsider, she knows the staff like the back of her hand, and she’s gone through many difficult situations at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital and made it through standing strong. She’s an amazing surgeon, teacher, person and candidate for chief.

Some of the main relationships on the show left off on bad terms. Jackson and April were in a difficult spot in their marriage, April liked the adrenaline that serving over sea’s made her feel (especially after they lost their first child, it was helping her feel alive again and cope) and Jackson supported her along the way but he reached his breaking point at the end of the season and it’s was unclear just what road this might go down. Will they find a way to work pass this or will they get a divorce? Amelia and Hunt were another couple that was left unsure where they stood. However, unlike Jackson and April, their relationship has always been and up and down situation. So, hopefully in season 12 we’ll see just where they all end up.

Lastly, who is going to be joining the cast? There was rumor a new doctor will be replacing Derek’s empty spot on the show. As what surgeon it wasn’t clear. What new or returning guest stars and will anyone else die off or move away? It’s hard to really tell but hopefully season 12 will be a good one.

Who started it, Where it all began and Where it's at now....

It all started with Shonda Rhimes. The Creator, head writer, and executive producer of Grey’s Anatomy is also known for being the creator of a few other top ABC shows like Scandal which is still ongoing and Private Practice which just so happens to be a spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy and ended in 2013. She’s also known for her directing, screenwriting and producing in other shows and movies.
Although I can say I absolutely adore her work I also should point out that I absolutely hate her with a passion sometimes. It’s fair to say that when you get into anything a show, a movie and so on you easily get upset over the smallest things that go wrong and that in my case is why at times I just can’t stand her. She’s killed off or “sent away” so many of the original cast that you can count them all on one hand. On the other hand this has also made the show grow and you’ve seen how events have made the characters change over time.
At the beginning you had the original main cast which was, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Richard Weber ( James Pickens Jr) and Addison Montgomery-Shepherd (Kate Walsh.
In the coming up season 12 the only original cast on the show is Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, Miranda Bailey, and Richard Weber. This is because Derek, Izzie, and George all died. Cristina, Preston and Addison all moved away. Although so many people left the show there has been so many new people added and died off and added. I feel like it has made the show grow but sooner or later is there not going to be any of the original cast left? Then what will happen? Are just some of the questions I have and who really knows if we’ll get the answer to that in the near future or not.

This leads me into where season 11 left off at. This season put me on an emotional roller coaster. Derek Shepherd, Dr. “McDreamy” Meredith’s Husband died from a terrible car accident that caused him to be put on a ventilator to be able to breathe due to a brain injury. Meredith had to make the hard decision to “pull the plug” and she did it all alone she called no one which caused drama back home when she got back to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. After the funeral the show did a fast recap of what life was like over the next year. She leaves with the kids and only keeps in contact with Alex barely. Before he died they got pregnant with their third child and in the recap she gave birth to a little girl she named after her mother. When Meredith returns to Seattle she as some drama to deal with by Derek’s Sister who is also a surgeon and is mad that she didn’t get a call and didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. In the next season I think we will get to see how Meredith adapts to life without Derek as well as the rest of the cast.  There was also talk of a new doctor joining the show.

The reason I chose this topic.....

The most simplest response would be because I love Grey’s Anatomy. I remember the first time I watched it years ago when the first season started and it reminded me so much of the medical drama I watched as a kid named ER. I think the reason it captured my eye was more of the medical side at first but I couldn’t help but get caught up in the drama as well. That’s what makes this show so interesting though it involved something I loved which was the medical part. Ever since I was younger I had always been fascinated by all things medical and this show has taught me more about something I hoped to one day be a part of. Grey’s Anatomy not only taught me more about the career I wanted to go into it also helped me figure out what exactly I wanted to go into. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, and it teaches me as well as it entertains me of course. I’ve been a fan since day one and over these past 11 going on 12 seasons I’ve seen people grow, die, grieve, learn, change, and so much more. I think that’s also another reason I picked this topic I have seen all these stories from the show and it’s something I know I could have endless posts to write about from telling about my favorite characters, to how I felt about a certain situation that happened on the show, the loss of one of my favorite characters, a medical procedure that I found interesting, what happened on this week’s episode, some grey’s terminology, how grey’s affected my future career and so much more. I know I could have wrote my blog about anything and I picked Grey’s Anatomy because it’s not just some show I watch just for entertainment it actually has real life situations and health problems that people face. It may not be the most realistic view into the medical field but it does give you a slight view of what it’s like and some of the things that could be faced. The stories about fight, hope, happiness and everything in between reminds me of why I want to be an Rn. Just like Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) said “It’s a beautiful day to save lives” I know that I want to be someone that helps saves the lives of those who are sick and in need. I want to help people get better, I want to make an impact in the lives of others and I want it to be my career. For that reason, I picked this topic because Grey’s Anatomy has shown me even more on who I want to become.
