The Day is Finally Here....

After months of wait season 12 is finally here. Tonight, Grey’s Anatomy is back for a brand new season and I am both excited and curious to see what is going to happen. It left off with some unanswered questions like, what’s Meredith’s life going to be like without Derek? What will happen to her and Amelia? Who is going to be Chief? Is it officially the end of April and Jackson? What will happen for Amelia and Owen? And just who exactly is joining the cast this season? And hopefully all these question will be answered. Although being curious I know like every season it’s going to be a roller coaster because Shonda Rhimes always has something up her sleeve.

The show took a big twist when they lost one of their main characters, Derek Shepherd. Although last season did show the mourning of his passing by his friends, family, and co-workers it was definitely rushed and there is a lot left to see about how they’re all going to move pass this especially Meredith, her children and Amelia. Although many were affected by his death his wife, children and sister are being shown to be dealing with it on a deeper level. It’s obvious in the many episodes before his death, Meredith can stand alone and be strong when things go wrong but Derek meant the world to her so I think we will get to see just how she copes and moves on from this difficult time in her life. Amelia on the other hand struggling with the difficult times, she’s a recovering drug addict, her brother meant the world to her and she’s finding it hard to move on but in this season I think we’ll get to see what road she takes after his death, will she go back to old ways and fall apart or will she stay strong and cope and learn to move on?

In the preview, Miranda Bailey is running for chief with another component just as good of a surgeon as she is. From the start Miranda has always put her work first. She’s a strong and shows tough love to the interns but she cares completely about them like family. I can’t make the best statement on who I think should win because the opposing side is a new character to the show but I can at least say the reasons why I think Bailey should win. She has more knowledge about that hospital than any other outsider, she knows the staff like the back of her hand, and she’s gone through many difficult situations at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital and made it through standing strong. She’s an amazing surgeon, teacher, person and candidate for chief.

Some of the main relationships on the show left off on bad terms. Jackson and April were in a difficult spot in their marriage, April liked the adrenaline that serving over sea’s made her feel (especially after they lost their first child, it was helping her feel alive again and cope) and Jackson supported her along the way but he reached his breaking point at the end of the season and it’s was unclear just what road this might go down. Will they find a way to work pass this or will they get a divorce? Amelia and Hunt were another couple that was left unsure where they stood. However, unlike Jackson and April, their relationship has always been and up and down situation. So, hopefully in season 12 we’ll see just where they all end up.

Lastly, who is going to be joining the cast? There was rumor a new doctor will be replacing Derek’s empty spot on the show. As what surgeon it wasn’t clear. What new or returning guest stars and will anyone else die off or move away? It’s hard to really tell but hopefully season 12 will be a good one.

Who started it, Where it all began and Where it's at now....

It all started with Shonda Rhimes. The Creator, head writer, and executive producer of Grey’s Anatomy is also known for being the creator of a few other top ABC shows like Scandal which is still ongoing and Private Practice which just so happens to be a spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy and ended in 2013. She’s also known for her directing, screenwriting and producing in other shows and movies.
Although I can say I absolutely adore her work I also should point out that I absolutely hate her with a passion sometimes. It’s fair to say that when you get into anything a show, a movie and so on you easily get upset over the smallest things that go wrong and that in my case is why at times I just can’t stand her. She’s killed off or “sent away” so many of the original cast that you can count them all on one hand. On the other hand this has also made the show grow and you’ve seen how events have made the characters change over time.
At the beginning you had the original main cast which was, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Richard Weber ( James Pickens Jr) and Addison Montgomery-Shepherd (Kate Walsh.
In the coming up season 12 the only original cast on the show is Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, Miranda Bailey, and Richard Weber. This is because Derek, Izzie, and George all died. Cristina, Preston and Addison all moved away. Although so many people left the show there has been so many new people added and died off and added. I feel like it has made the show grow but sooner or later is there not going to be any of the original cast left? Then what will happen? Are just some of the questions I have and who really knows if we’ll get the answer to that in the near future or not.

This leads me into where season 11 left off at. This season put me on an emotional roller coaster. Derek Shepherd, Dr. “McDreamy” Meredith’s Husband died from a terrible car accident that caused him to be put on a ventilator to be able to breathe due to a brain injury. Meredith had to make the hard decision to “pull the plug” and she did it all alone she called no one which caused drama back home when she got back to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. After the funeral the show did a fast recap of what life was like over the next year. She leaves with the kids and only keeps in contact with Alex barely. Before he died they got pregnant with their third child and in the recap she gave birth to a little girl she named after her mother. When Meredith returns to Seattle she as some drama to deal with by Derek’s Sister who is also a surgeon and is mad that she didn’t get a call and didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. In the next season I think we will get to see how Meredith adapts to life without Derek as well as the rest of the cast.  There was also talk of a new doctor joining the show.

The reason I chose this topic.....

The most simplest response would be because I love Grey’s Anatomy. I remember the first time I watched it years ago when the first season started and it reminded me so much of the medical drama I watched as a kid named ER. I think the reason it captured my eye was more of the medical side at first but I couldn’t help but get caught up in the drama as well. That’s what makes this show so interesting though it involved something I loved which was the medical part. Ever since I was younger I had always been fascinated by all things medical and this show has taught me more about something I hoped to one day be a part of. Grey’s Anatomy not only taught me more about the career I wanted to go into it also helped me figure out what exactly I wanted to go into. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, and it teaches me as well as it entertains me of course. I’ve been a fan since day one and over these past 11 going on 12 seasons I’ve seen people grow, die, grieve, learn, change, and so much more. I think that’s also another reason I picked this topic I have seen all these stories from the show and it’s something I know I could have endless posts to write about from telling about my favorite characters, to how I felt about a certain situation that happened on the show, the loss of one of my favorite characters, a medical procedure that I found interesting, what happened on this week’s episode, some grey’s terminology, how grey’s affected my future career and so much more. I know I could have wrote my blog about anything and I picked Grey’s Anatomy because it’s not just some show I watch just for entertainment it actually has real life situations and health problems that people face. It may not be the most realistic view into the medical field but it does give you a slight view of what it’s like and some of the things that could be faced. The stories about fight, hope, happiness and everything in between reminds me of why I want to be an Rn. Just like Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) said “It’s a beautiful day to save lives” I know that I want to be someone that helps saves the lives of those who are sick and in need. I want to help people get better, I want to make an impact in the lives of others and I want it to be my career. For that reason, I picked this topic because Grey’s Anatomy has shown me even more on who I want to become.
